Music For Youth King’s Coronation Bandstand

Sound Foundation Somerset and Somerset Music are delighted to have been awarded funding by Music For Youth to run a King’s Coronation Bandstand Project as part of the Taunton Coronation Celebrations and to have been chosen to host one of only 12 similar events nationally.

Music For Youth is a national youth music charity working with young people aged 25 and under across the UK with the vision that every young person in the UK can achieve their music potential.  It believes that music, and the chance to participate in high-quality musical activities, should be open to every young person

Taunton Coronation Celebration event is a weekend-long, outdoor, community event, celebrating King Charles III Coronation by aiming to bring together families, friends and groups from in and around Taunton to celebrate this historic occasion together. A giant screen will be installed in Castle Green, outside the Museum of Somerset, to live-stream the coronation on Saturday 6th May, and the music concert from Windsor Castle on Sunday 7th.  Local talent from a wide range of musical and creative genres, including performing arts & dance groups, school and community choirs and instrumental groups, bands, and rock and pop acts will be showcased on a stage at the Castle Green ahead of the Windsor Castle party.

In addition to the above various youth, school, college and community groups and bands will play on the bandstand in Vivary Park on Sunday 7th May. A fleet of vintage vehicles provided by Taunton Historic Vehicle Group will be sited inside the main park arena, to provide a complementary backdrop to the celebrations.

You are invited to bring your picnic hampers and deck chairs and to come prepared for a big British day out!
