Artsmark is the creative quality standard for education settings, accredited by Arts Council England. It is a powerful curriculum review and support tool, designed to help ensure that arts and creativity are at the heart of a broad and balanced learning experience for young people.

Artsmark supports the creative arts to be embedded across the whole curriculum and included within a school’s development or raising achievement plan, which all helps to meet Ofsted’s broader ‘quality of education’ and ‘Cultural Capital’ focus. It is also well documented that creativity has a vital role to play in supporting the wellbeing, emotional and mental health of children and young people, which is needed now more than ever.

With a common sense application process that is light on paperwork and flexible to how each setting is run, and plenty of support on offer from our delivery partner Spaeda, partner arts and cultural organisations, and the regional Bridge organisation, Real Ideas Organisation (RiO), there is no better time to start your Artsmark journey!

And this is especially true if you are a school in Somerset as you can now apply for funding through the Artsmark SPARK! scheme, allowing you to access more support, creativity, and impact for your setting! Read on for details…

Artsmark SPARK! Calling Somerset Schools…

Would you like funding to develop arts & cultural learning in your setting?

Are you interested in embarking upon or renewing your Artsmark journey?

Are you looking to build connections with arts & cultural partners to support the curriculum, and to help increase the wellbeing of pupils and staff?

If it’s a yes to any of these, the Artsmark SPARK! scheme is for you…

Artsmark SPARK! is an opportunity for Somerset schools to access funding, CPD and support, for developing arts & cultural learning in their setting. Managed by Spaeda, with funding from Sound Foundation Somerset and Real Ideas Organisation, the scheme aims to provide a boost to teaching, learning, and creativity in schools, especially in these challenging times.

Schools can apply for up to £1500 of funds, plus have their £500 Artsmark registration fee paid for. To access this, you need to commit to registering for Artsmark, and pledge match funding up to £500. This needs to be ‘new’ funds, meaning anything that hasn’t been used on arts or culture before and won’t take away from other planned cultural activity. If you have already registered for Artsmark, you would still be eligible for this scheme as long as this was done no earlier than Sept 2018. Renewing schools are also eligible to apply.

As well as the match funding, you will be able to access a wide range of creative CPD for staff, resources, and support with writing your Statement of Commitment for Artsmark, including connecting with cultural partners.

There are termly deadlines, as listed below, and applications are welcomed on a rolling basis. However, please note the funding is limited and so we very much recommend applying sooner rather than later!

Application deadlines in 2021, all by 5pm:

Term 4 – Friday 26th February

Term 5 – Friday 23rd April

Term 6 – Friday 11th June

End of school year – Friday 9th July
