Artsmark is the creative quality standard for education settings, accredited by Arts Council England. It is a powerful curriculum review and support tool, designed to help ensure that arts and creativity are at the heart of a broad and balanced learning experience for young people.

Artsmark supports the creative arts to be embedded across the whole curriculum and included within a school’s development or raising achievement plan, which all helps to meet Ofsted’s broader ‘quality of education’ and ‘Cultural Capital’ focus. It is also well documented that creativity has a vital role to play in supporting the wellbeing, emotional and mental health of children and young people, which is needed now more than ever.

With a common sense application process that is light on paperwork and flexible to how each setting is run, and plenty of support on offer from our delivery partner SPAEDA, partner arts and cultural organisations, and the regional Bridge organisation, Real Ideas Organisation (RiO), there is no better time to start your Artsmark journey!

And this is especially true if you are a school in Somerset as you can now apply for match funding through the Challenge Fund Artsmark Scheme, allowing you to access more support, creativity, and impact for your setting! Read on for details…

Challenge Fund Artsmark Scheme

Sound Foundation Somerset, the Somerset Music Education Hub, and SPAEDA, are inviting Somerset schools to take advantage of this limited offer of match funding and dedicated support for their Artsmark journey.

To take part, schools need to register for Artsmark and pledge funds (between £450-£1000) that haven’t previously been used for creative arts education, in return schools will receive £ for £ match funding, covering their Artsmark registration (£500 per school) and providing a budget to access a host of creative expertise, CPD, activity delivery and support to assist them on their Artsmark journey.

This doubles your resource, and provides access to dedicated support, helping to make your Artsmark journey the best it can be!

Support will be bespoke to each school’s identified priorities, but could include:

  • CPD or staff and/or music or creative arts curriculum training &/or support delivered by MEH recommended partner, such as SPAEDA, (e.g. Primary and Secondary Art and/or Music INSET days, online training, conferences, and bespoke training)
  • A series of Artist-led practical taster films to increase 2D & 3D art skills and confidence through CPD, and support for using the arts across the school and to increase wellbeing. These aim to bring the artist to you, as a substitute for any lost experiences of Arts Weeks, artists-in-residence, gallery / studio visits at this time.
  • Whole Class Ensemble Tuition or progression activity – if not already being delivered by or signed up to the MEH for the following academic year at the time of pledge
  • Annual Sing-Up membership – discounted rates apply
  • Musical Instrument Hire
  • Music workshops/experiences
  • Creative Artists time/days – Visual Arts, Dance, Drama
  • Digital Media training/support
