Welcome to 2022. This promises to be a big year for Music Education as we expect the publication of the refreshed National Plan for Music Education. There is no word on the street as to what might be in it but I feel confident thy the SFSpsrynetd will be up to the challenge.. Happy zNew zYesr

Welcome to a New Academic Year!
|
The Summer has seen two very important policy messages for music education. Firstly “A team of experts has been assembled to help shape the future of music education so that all pupils have the opportunity to sing, and be taught a musical instrument and make music with others,” with the aim of producing a new National Plan for Music Education next year - more info.
|
With schools open and many community music activities starting up again, I look forward to all that will go on in Somerset.

Drama at CYMT - LAST CHANCE TO BOOK!

Auditions for the Somerset County Youth Concert Band and County Youth Orchestra
|
When: 11th and 12th October 2021

Somerset Music will be holding auditions for the Somerset County Youth Concert Band and County Youth Orchestra.
|

The Somerset County Youth Choirs are also open to new members as well as starting a new County Youth Ukulele Band.

Primary Music Conference

An inspiring one day conference providing the opportunity to develop teaching skills and choose from a range of practical workshops. This one day conference is an opportunity to network with colleagues from across Somerset, learn new skills and obtain new resources. More info>

An introduction to the SALTmusic research project
|
This session will introduce the SALTmusic research project, briefly looking at the aims of the project and the community of practice developed, they will focus on practical strategies, including the thinking behind them, which can be used in a variety of situations to support communication needs through musical play. More info>

Free Online Music CPD
Live Music Now is holding a free online workshop on using iPads and other resources for accessible music making. You will explore how to use apps like ThumbJam to enable pupils, particularly those with additional needs, to make music. No musical experience needed – the session is aimed at non-music specialist staff, particularly those working in special schools (colleagues from mainstream schools also very welcome to join).

|
CYMT's music programme is up and running for students up to college age who want to play in bands, orchestra and chamber music groups, plus there's music production, singing, theory of music, and composition. |
Final term to apply for arts & cultural match funding from the Artsmark SPARK scheme!

Artsmark SPARK offers schools up to £1500 of funds, plus reimbursement of their Artsmark registration fee.

Vocal Health with Sara Harris
|
Voice specialist Speech and Language Therapist, Sara Harris, will address some of the myths and magical thinking that have developed around the subject of vocal care and discuss current thinking on vocal health.

Somerset Music are pleased to announce that there will be two Christmas Celebration Concerts this year on Monday 6th December at St Mary’s Church, Bridgwater and Tuesday 7th December at St Cuthbert’s Church, Wells.

Somerset Music has a proud tradition of organising these annual events which showcase the talents of our young people.
