Fantastic finale to Year of Percussion

Nearly 200 young percussionists from schools across Somerset raised the roof on the Cheese & Grain in Frome on the 10th June as they performed alongside the fabulous Joby Burgess in front of a full house. The Sound we See is an abstract representation of Somerset through the eyes of 24 local filmmakers, made with Somerset Film and Echo Park Centre from LA.

Actiontrack were given the role of creating an original soundtrack for all 24 films. 6 young vocalists came together to create a haunting and hypnotic live film soundtrack.The creation was performed live and received incredible feedback.

Hestercombe CYM free workshops for young musicians

Hestercombe CYM is hosting free workshops for young musicians and a free concert by some of the UK’s top music students from Guildhall School in London.

A fabulous 10-piece brass group will coach the workshops for young musicians aged 6-18 (any instrument, any ability welcome)

The Sound Foundation Somerset Primary Music Conference took place on the 15th of May in the inspiring setting of Dillington House.

There were 70 delegates from primary and middle schools across Somerset.The key note speaker was James Davaney representing music mark who did a very comprehensive and constructive session on the new national curriculum for music.

Delegates then took part in a variety of workshops delivered by Sound Foundation Somerset delivery partners which offered something for everyone.  The feedback from the delegates was extremely positive and they are all looking forward to the event next year.

The AllStars project – musical inclusion in Somerset.

Somerset community music organisation Count Me In are celebrating an award from Youth Music to run a big musical inclusion project across the county. Their new AllStars project brings young people of different abilities together to learn and converse through music.The core team are young musicians with learning disabilities.

The Mid Somerset Spectacular takes place at Strode Theatre on the 15,16,17th of June which promises to be an exciting event, tickets are available from the box office but hurry they are selling fast.

The Sedgmoor and West Somerset Spectacular takes place at the Macmillan Theatre Bridgwater College on the 9th of July.

The Somerset County Youth orchestra and County Youth Concert Band are preparing for their summer tour to Tuscany during the last week of term. See their facebook page for more details of this exciting tour.

The newly formed county youth choir have a course at the end of the summer holidays and they are launching the county youth show choir on this course.  For further details please contact Somerset Music.
